Biodiversity and ecosystem specialist

Biotope, biodiversity and ecosystem specialists

The need to protect the environment is becoming urgent and requires concrete and efficient solutions. That’s what we’re all about. Biotope brings together the largest team of ecologists at the European level. Our services are designed for businesses, communities, government services and NGOs.

We provide consulting, regulatory studies, training and communication. Because environmental issues have no borders, Biotope conducts and supports projects and actions on all six continents and all five oceans.

They encompass fauna, flora, and landscape diagnostic missions, aimed at obtaining an environmental permit to carry out a development project.

These studies enable the definition of measures to avoid and/or reduce biodiversity losses. If necessary, they implement environmental compensation actions in favor of protected species or habitats.

Finally, they lead to ecosystem restoration operations and the restoration of their ecological functionalities. They rely on a wide range of scientific expertise.

The integration of environmental considerations into human activities has become a top priority for organizations. For all businesses aware of their dependencies on biodiversity, we offer consulting services such as the establishment of biodiversity strategies closely tied to CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), certifications, standards, nature-based solutions, and/or strategies for payments for environmental services.

The first quantitative estimates of the dependencies of the French financial system on various ecosystem services, and its impacts on biodiversity have been published. 42% of the amount of stocks and bonds held by French financial institutions is issued by companies that are heavily or very heavily dependent on at least one ecosystem service.

To support the ecological transition, everyone recognizes the importance of skill development within teams. However, the observation is as follows regarding life sciences: on one hand, both initial and vocational training are not focused on these topics, and on the other hand, tools and knowledge are evolving very quickly.

That’s why Biotope provides training both on the main concepts essential for understanding the functioning of ecosystems, and on the main tools at our disposal to implement this ecological transition: regulatory tools, applied statistics, molecular, geomatics, taxonomics, etc… But, of course, it is in the field where our trainees make the most rapid progress!

The words and images are thoughtfully selected by our specialists in nature and communication to bring scientific accuracy and credibility to environmental communication actions. The aim is to participate in spreading naturalistic knowledge or to promote nature preservation actions. We help our clients communicate on all topics related to the environment through mastered methodological tools (landscape readings, photographic reports, design thinking, etc.) and available resources (photographic databases, libraries, etc.).

* Since 8 August 2016, the Biodiversity law requires project owners to transmit their biodiversity data whether in raw or optimised form to the INPN (France’s national natural heritage inventory).

Archipel
Environmental mitigation operator in Ile-de-France

Archipel was born of a partnership between Biotope and Safer of Ile-de-France, a historic property agency with exclusive knowledge and land control tools. This structure allows a wide range of actors to become owner and/or manager of environmental mitigation properties: the project owner itself, manager of natural spaces, farmer or individual (physical or legal person).
We share our experiences and know-how to simplify the fulfilment of your obligations and bring value to your property. Owning natural farmland means you have to maintain, improve, monitor, invest in or restore your property. These operations are often costly and can be even more complex if the property is difficult to access or is polluted, as in suburban areas. New sources of financing can be found to improve the protection and management of natural and agricultural land, particularly through environmental mitigation. In this way, the acquisition, restoration and maintenance of sites of environmental interest can be funded in order to receive environmental mitigation measures.

Public data transmission
Law for the restoration of biodiversity, nature and landscapes

The law requires public or private project owners to contribute to the inventory by entering or submitting " raw biodiversity data" acquired during screening assessments or impact monitoring conducted for the preparation of planning documents, as well as for development projects subject to authorisation.
The naturalist data collected according to different protocols (IPA, transects, etc.) or randomly during ecological surveying carried out in the framework of regulatory procedures (environmental assessments), conservation programs (management plans, Natura 2000 objectives documents, etc.), research activities or the construction of structures must be submitted to the national natural heritage inventory managed by Muséum National d'Histoire Naturel (MNHN).

Facilitators at your service
Environmentalists

We provide a team of 15 environmental or QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment) engineers at all of our branches.

Their mission is to facilitate discussions and act as an interface between your project and our partners assemblers of regulatory studies for development or urban planning projects. They perform environmental assessments for plans and programs, local urban planning and intra-community local urban planning and comprehensive zoning and development plans.
They address all environmental, social, physical and biological topics, assisting project owners in their administrative application procedures for environmental authorisations, and in preparing and drafting files (ICPE, IOTA). This team is very involved in regulatory watches of all environmental topics, which means that it can offer high quality consulting services to assist you, avoid the pitfalls of this constantly changing regulation and guarantee a secure administrative instruction process (as secure as possible). Finally, the team puts its skills to work for project owners to deploy environmental management systems (EMS), to provide assistance, coordinate environmental studies or projects for better environmental insertion of development projects.
