The ecosystem approach in impact studies – A new Biotope article

02/07/2018

Biotope offers its expertise to the wind energy sector across France. Our advice is based also on results in other countries.

Biotope participated in an analysis of onshore wind energy in Scotland. One of the main concerns was to take the impacts on peatlandsinto account. The results of the analysis were published in the Environmental Impact Assessment Review.

They show that we could improve the analysis of the cumulative impacts of the sector, and of each project, by adopting an “ecosystemic” approach and the Avoid – Reduce – Compensate sequenceto the impacts. This is also what the standards of financial institutions require of wind projects that Biotope assists in outside Europe (North Africa, Mexico, etc.).
