Weed cutting in Lac de la Gèmerie

09/10/2018

For about ten years, nautical and aquatic activities on Lac de la Gèmerie have been disturbed by an overabundance of aquatic plants. Numerous actions have been taken to address this problem, but with no real success.

In the framework of the Biodiversité project, an inspection was conducted of the ecological sites and a multi-year management plan was defined for the lake. In 2017, as part of the management plan, Biotope and Aquascop proposed having the hornwort cut twice a year by a service provider with specific equipment. The Poletto company was chosen at a cost of €324 000.

Since the lake is very popular in summer, it was decided to intervene during the second half of June for two weeks, as well as in September. Divers will also monitor plant growth in order to perform some readjustments during the season if necessary.
